GAZ

Gorky Automobile Plant - the largest and the oldest automotive plant in our country. The decision to build an automotive giant factory was made in 1929.

The plant had already been put into operation in January 1, 1931 and a year later (in late January 1932) the first vehicle - NAZ-AA truck was released. In 1970 they began production of a passenger car "GAZ-24" Volga ". In March 1981 the plant has made the 10 millionth car. In 1992, GAZ was converted into a public company. In 2000 the plant manufactured its 16 millionth car.

Over the years the company had designed nearly 400 different models and modifications of vehicles and manufactured more than 16 million cars and trucks.

Currently the plant is under the control of "RusPromAvto" and makes light commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, passenger cars, construction and road equipment, trucks, special vehicles, diesel and gasoline engines, diesel fuel equipment, automotive components.

Now the group of "Ruspromavto" includes:
1. JSC "GAZ".
2. JSC "Pavlovsky Bus".
3. JSC "Golitsino bus factory."
4. JSC "Kanash Auto Aggregate Plant."
5. JSC "Saransk Plant dump."
6. OAO "Yaroslavl Diesel Equipment Plant."
7. JSC "Autodiesel" (Yaroslavl Engine Works).
8. LLC "Likinsky bus."
9. LLC "KAVZ."
10. OAO "Yaroslavl Fuel Equipment Plant."

Despite the glorious and heroic past of the factory, the future of the GAZ passenger car is a bit uncertain: a few years ago the top management of the factory announced its intention to reduce the production of "Volga" cars in the nearest future and to focus on the yield of commercial vehicles of LDV brand. In addition, it has been recently announced about the startup of manufacturing of the newest sedan Siber as assembled on the basis of the American Chrysler Sebring, which seems to become the successor of "Volga".
