Well known racer Vincenzo Lancia along with his partner Claudio Fodzholinom registered a company “Fabbrica Automobili Lancia» in Turin on November 27, 1906. The first creation under the name Lancia 18-24 HP came in September 23, 1907. Later, by advice of his older brother, Vincenzo Lancia started calling their cars using letters of the Greek alphabet, and the first-born, naturally, was named Lancia Alfa. Alfa was extraordinary. A high speed four-cylinder engine of displacement 2543 cm3 developed 28 hp. The car was installed the stamped steel patented rear axle which weight two times less than an ordinary cast axle. Torque was transmitted to the rear wheels from the four-speed transmission with shaft, not with a chain, as on many other cars of the time. The First World War brought about changes to the company of Lancia: By the decree of the Government of Italy Lancia company was declared a military enterprise. Instead of luxury cars they had to switch to the production of trucks, special vehicles, and even armored vehicles. Then they developed eight-and twelve-cylinder engines.
The war contributed to the development of the company: in 1919, the factory area increased to 60,000 square meters. Place of honor on the line was given to a new model - Kappa, but in fact it was the upgraded Theta.
