Land Rover

The company was founded as a subsidiary of the Group «Rover Group» In 1994 Rover was acquired by the German concern BMW. The company manufactures the famous off-road car Land Rover. The company’s headquarters is located in England, near Birmingham.

Prior to the beginning of 2008 the company was owned by American company Ford and the Americans have recently sold Land Rover to the Indian company Tata.

Having started the production of four-wheel drive SUV after the Second World War, the company immediately became the undisputed leader and still stays at the top of the brotherhood of the all-wheel drive up till now. Land Rover is quite rightly regarded as the best SUV.

The first Land Rover appeared in the post-war England in 1948, during the period of severe shortage of steel. It was a brilliantly simple and an ingeniously made "workhorse" of aluminum. Spencer brothers and Maurice Wilks, who worked for the British automotive company «Rover», created a new car like a symbol that combined the simplicity and reliability. The car was accompanied by an instant success. As the result of that by the mid-fifties of the last century the brand of «Land Rover» has become clearly identified with the notion of stability, longevity and phenomenal off-road qualities. Military men and agricultural workers, as well as rescue and recovery personnel have found in Land Rover precisely those properties that they needed for a car. By 1959 the assembly lines of the plant in Solihull made the 250,000 th Land Rover, and thus laid down the foundation for the future complete dominance in the market.
